Fotolanthropy | Fashion + Product

May 29, 2012

This is a post I’ve been meaning to get on the blog for sometime now. I am really passionate about this job.

I met Katie Norris a few months ago thanks to a dear friend, Jenn, who said we’d really hit it off. We’re both professional photographers, we both live in Dallas, we have similar heartbeats for things in life and so she thought we’d enjoy meeting. Our first time date at Starbucks was like we were decade old friends catching up from months apart. Katie and her assistant Brooke quickly became dear friends both professionally and personally and one conversation led to another.

Before long, they were sharing with me their passion. Fotolanthropy.

Fotolanthropy is a giving-based company that captures the real stories of real people to bring about real inspiration.  We do this through professional photography and high quality film in order preserve the memory of a life and to also create inspiring stories to share with others. With each story we create a short film that creatively tells the true story and we also give to the family or individual a beautiful coffee book album filled with the portraits from their session and the DVD of the portrait images and short film, free of charge!

Fotolanthropy seeks to bring joy to families and individuals who have faced or are facing difficult circumstances by giving our time and resources and providing them with lasting memories through photography and film.  We believe that by telling their story through the creative excellence of photography and film we are able to honor them, as well as inspire others by making the stories available for anyone to see.  It is this dual focus of being a blessing to others and also telling stories to inspire those outside the situation that makes us believe fotolanthropy can have a positive impact on countless lives.  To us, this is more than merely taking photos and shooting film; this is joining together and sharing a small part in the experiences that others are facing. Telling and watching compelling, real life stories causes everyone to want to live richer lives that are less focused on the selfish here and now, and more focused on living with joy and centering on what truly matters.  We feel privileged to be able to interact with the heroes in fotolanthropy stories, and we believe that if we can have even a small positive impact on them and others, that is always worth it.

Needless to say, I was on board. I loved their heartbeat. I loved their focus and I loved their passion. Talking about the organization led to a conversation about the product they were in the works of, a Fotostrap now called FOTO for photographers.

FOTO creates fashionable camera straps for any photographer. FOTO is also committed to giving and donates a portion of its proceeds to giving-based business Fotolanthropy combines photography, film and philanthropy to create a short film of an inspiring true story of families or individuals that are facing trials.

FOTOstraps are made in the USA and created with quality materials of 100% genuine leather, brass hardware and environmentally friendly duck fabric. The strap is vintage inspired and designed to compliment today’s fashion styles. The strap can also be monogrammed, which makes for the perfect gift! Add your name, monogram or even your business logo!

So not only was I on board with their mission but I loved their product. What photographer doesn’t need a fabulous strap? I was passionate about their cause, I was excited about their product and they asked me to help them bring them all together. So we worked together to produce, direct and execute the following shoot- in order to capture all the amazing product. Here are some of the images from that day! You can see sneak peeks of the product and we’d love you to purchase your own strap if you head over to the Foto website!

Some big thank you’s to all our incredible models and talented hair & makeup teams. Thank you to Katie Norris and Brooke Moore for their incredibly hard work in pre & post production! Thank you to Hickory Street Annex for the space! It was an honor to work with you all on this project and I’m excited to see Foto and Fotolanthropy grow and tell incredible stories! If you’re interested in giving or being a part of either of these causes, contact Brooke or Katie (or myself!) and we’ll get you connected!

Thank you all!! – Claire
