The Munchies Food Award | Andrew Zimmern + Sour Bridges
Regarded as one of the most versatile and knowledgeable personalities in the food world, Andrew Zimmern is a TV host, chef, food writer, and teacher. As the creator, host and co-producer of the hit series “Bizarre Foods,” he travels the globe in search of the world’s most unique tastes. In 2010, Zimmern won the James Beard Award for Outstanding Television Food Personality.
Friday afternoon before the Austin Food & Wine Festival, we had a chance to catch up with Zimmern at The Munchies : People Food Choice Awards, hosted by General Mills. The Munchies award is chosen by a panel of culinary celebrities and recognizes the most amazing tastes, faces and places in the food world.
“Food is such a passion point for so many of us in this country, and I love being involved in anything that really gets people talking about the best of what’s out there,” said Zimmern. “The Munchies are an opportunity to spark a national conversation about food and give the public a chance to vote for their favorites.”
The event took place at the South Austin Trailer Park and had Torchy’s Taco, winner of the Munchies Award last year, on hand to provide taco’s and refreshments. And local Austin band, Sour Bridges, was on hand to perform, even lucky enough to get Zimmern on stage with them for the last few songs of the afternoon!
